Health and Support Services
Pride Scholarship Application

Latinos Salud is proud to offer the Health and Support Services Pride Scholarship to members of the LGBTQ/A+ community who are pursuing higher education for a career in helping professions such as nursing, social work, psychology, or public health, and who intend to work in South Florida upon graduation. Latinos Salud’s scholarship is available to LGBTQ/A+ high school seniors for their freshman college year, and to continuing college / university undergraduate or graduate students.

Our Pride Scholarship will award up to $5,000 to each scholar selected for the 2024 – 2025 academic year. Our Pride scholars may re-apply each year for possible renewal scholarships in subsequent academic years.

The selection committee considers multiple factors when assessing scholarship applicants, including academic performance, financial need, personal goals, likelihood of progress toward a degree, and the applicant’s identification with and concern for the well-being of South Florida’s LGBTQ/A+ community.

The selection committee is especially focused on those whose lived experiences and identity equip them to serve LGBTQ/A+ community members disproportionately impacted by medical and mental health conditions. Each candidate who applies is evaluated on the criteria listed in the application, as well as the totality of their situation.

Full essay: Pick one of the questions below, and answer in the two boxes provided. Limit your response to 750 words or fewer, keeping within the space provided. Start by noting the number of the question you are responding to, followed by your response.

The intent of this section is to give you the opportunity to distinguish yourself from other applicants.

1. What is your specific goal in pursuing this academic path, and your career after graduation? That is, exactly how do you envision that your major and your experiences as an LGBTQ/A+ community member will equip you to best help other LGBTQ/A+ persons like yourself in South Florida?

2. What event or situation informed your decision to pursue this academic path, and shape your goals for your career after graduation? How does serving LGBTQA community members specifically in South Florida fit into this vision for your future?
